This section of the website contains information for community NRM groups, including information on how to become a host, roles and responsibilities, the event registration process and other important information.Much of the information presented here will be contained in a Hosting Kit that is currently being prepared. These Kits, once finalised will be forwarded to groups who have already expressed an interest in becoming hosts. It is expected the kit will be finalised over the coming weeks. There is no formal process community NRM groups need to undertake to host volunteers sourced via the Green Nomads program. However there are some criteria and procedures that need to be followed. These are summarised below and are outlined in more detailed in the fact sheets listed. Firstly, for community NRM groups to be able to host Green Nomads they must be a member of QWaLC, and registered under QWaLC's umbrella insurance coverage for community NRM groups. Groups under this insurance policy are incorporated. If you are unsure your group is already a member of QWaLC and/or is covered by our insurance please contact us. For groups who are not members you can find information on the QWaLC website on how to join (free), becoming incorporated and insurance. For new groups QWaLC can reimburse the cost of incorporation. Secondly, when your group is undertaking a conservation project, working bee, volunteer day or the like, and you would like the event included in the Green Nomads program, you need to fill in and return an 'Event Registration Form' to Natalie Mogg ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ). This form collects details on the event, of which are then posted on this website. Once posted, your event is then made available to subscribers, who then can register to attend your event. When this happens QWaLC will be notified by an automatic email, who will in turn forward this to your group's nominated contact person for the event.
The type of events you'd like Green Nomads to participate in can be wide in scope and will obviously depend on your groups' needs. An important consideration when including your event(s) is that they should have a specific date, time and location. Ongoing volunteering opportunities can be included but only as a series of recurring events i.e. every second Monday. This is important because we need to provide Green Nomads with specific information that they can incorporate into their travel itineraries, and so that group's can fulfil their supervising obligations. Come as you go volunteering opportunities will not be included in the program. At the beginning of the event, your group's nominated site supervisor will need to induct and brief volunteers on the task at hand, and the supervisor must be present during the entire duration of the event. A guide on inducting and briefing volunteers will be included in the Hosting Kit, which will also include:
The Hosting Kit and its contents will be provided to community NRM groups to assist them to run a smooth, safe and responsible event for volunteers. The only information that will need to be returned to QWaLC following the event or each recurring event will be the attendee list. This is so QWaLC can keep track of numbers concerning registration versus actual participation. Events can occur on public or private land. With works on private land, the landholder must be a member of the hosting community NRM group and the event must be an official group event. This is to ensure appropriate insurance coverage for Green Nomads. Please note the fact sheets below will be progressively updated.
